The Mediterranean. Interboundary city between Ceuta and Morocco
Function: Interboundary city
Site location: Ceuta
Institution: Polytechnic University of Catalonia, Barcelona School of Architecture (ETSAB)
Brief description of the project:
“How a complex territory such as the border between Ceuta and Morocco can be transformed from within architectural practice?
It is proposed the construction of an interboundary city that is placed inside the border, to host refugees and migrants, plus to dynamize the territorial economy. As a consequence, the proposal consists on a city grammar: an opened structure composed by a linear sequence of structural porticos that contain dwellings and external volumes that embody services and public facilities.
As a result, the border becomes a human artifact in the middle of the sweeping landscape; a home for those who had to abandon their hometowns to escape from horror.”
