Short history of the salt & pepper shaker

Salt and pepper shakers are two important objects used during meal times, along with dishes, glasses and the flatware: these condiment holders are made to distribute salt and pepper on meals and are often designed in a way that makes them interact with each other. The two pots are easily distinguishable by the number of holes at the top and often by colour too, creating interesting matching sets. They come in a great variety of materials, from silver to pottery and therefore, in a great variety of prices too. We collected some examples, from 1920 to 2013:
