-COMMUNITY AWARD of SOCIAL DISTANCING HOUSING BLOCK Competition
The primary aim of this project is to create a co-habitation block in which people can live communally and maintain their social distance at the same time.
Pre-fabricated square modules of 5m x 5m are assembled in differentiating ways composing the residential units, which are suitable for various scenarios, and these units are stacked together around a large central courtyard, creating residential clusters and voids reserved for greenery. Each unit has a facade facing the internal courtyard and an opposite facade oriented outwards to provide light and cross-ventilation. The plans of the units are designed to be open, to accommodate different lifestyles and allow for the users to shape the space according to their needs and interests. Alongside communal green areas such as the internal courtyard, all units are equipped with private open spaces as well.
Modularity has been another important consideration since offering rapid, easy, and flexible construction that could be installed anywhere is a huge advantage especially in times of global crises, such as the COVID-19 pandemic.
Circulation cores are placed in strategic locations, enabling the users to navigate towards their units with minimal effort and interaction. Multiple cores have been inserted to decrease concentration, instead of utilizing a single common core.
