While time never waits, and our consumption wouldn’t drop…
Imagining how life would be when the climate clock stops?
As global temperature rises by 1.5°C, drastic changes in the environment become unstoppable. These critical changes would initially be evident in places with limited resources – particularly in a densely populated island such as Hongkong; significantly diminishing the quality of life especially in terms of public space.
These changes will initiate a time shift paradigm (+3 hours) that forces people to adopt a nocturnal lifestyle, avoiding the elevated heat during the daytime. Therefore, in broad daylight, nature slowly takes over. To accommodate this change, primary roads are transformed into natural spines of the city. It initiates as a moisture trap that avoids drought and maintains the humidity, simultaneously, the self-sustained natural spine will become home to an emerging native ecology. Besides, new typologies of communal spaces are established by the collaborations between locals and the government. This creates a network of adaptive multi-level pocket spaces that offer three-dimensional experiences with diverse programs for universal users.
With public spaces functioning as a cohabitation-infrastructure, an inclusive relationship between human and nature have been established.
Even when the climate clock stops…humanity thrives on
