-FINALIST of FUTURE PUBLIC SPACE Competition
Although it is currently hard to imagine, we envision a public space where borders between here and there recede. Soon our travel restrictions will be over and this provides us the opportunity to revalue the potentials of our common public spaces.
Our proposal includes a ship, named Sphere, that sails along different places. The goal of the ship is to bring a sense of a wider landscape into once immediate public space, establishing rich relations between here and there. Everywhere Sphere stops, the most curious stories and miraculous goods are gathered and stored in the infinite archive of the ship. It carries the wonders of one city’s sphere to the next destination. When the ship moors, a runner imprinted with the face of the earth will roll out of the ship onto the main city square. On the covered square a pavilion (showcasing parts of the archive), telescope tower and table will rise, highlighting connections and providing opportunities to discover “the other”.
The public space becomes a space of endless opportunities and wonder, it becomes a sphere that celebrates our shared common grounds. A sphere which tributes to the rich society that we live in together!
