Park MODe asks how we, as designers, consider perspectives around public spaces within the context of the current pandemic and looking beyond to how our interventions today will evolve and adapt to be relevant, appropriate and purposeful in the “New Normal”.
As Covid-19 has spread globally, social distancing is now the trend. Regions and Cities have implemented social distancing policies in public spaces, parks, plazas and the public realm.
Our team proposes a new typology of landscape/ furnishing system, ‘MODe,’ which adapts to physical distance by analyzing new daily cases. Puzzle pieces inspired the shape of the ‘MODe.’ Each piece functioning independently during the pandemic, able to be configured into clusters post-pandemic.
The MODes offer various uses. The intervention is classified into three categories: Play, Furniture, and Planting. Each catalogue provides a series of programs. Each can function as one program. Meanwhile, users can arrange cells via an app and configure to combine with others to fit individual and group activities. As simple as a puzzle, however this puzzle provides virtually infinite combinations.
