-FINALIST of SOCIAL DISTANCING HOUSING BLOCK Competition
For effective and sustainable dwellings distancing, it’s not necessary more space between them or for each one of these. It`s not a density problem, on the contrary, a good density allows autonomous neighborhoods, reducing trips for work, basic needs and crossing between people. Neoliberal markets -like gravity- are inescapable and architecture cannot change it, but this one doesn’t define it, however, its rules should be assumed as inescapable restriction, because without it, all problems would be solved banally through larger housing, more distanced between them, increasing travel and expanding cities unnecessarily.
New dwellings and less travels with the same resources are achieved by sharing the dwelling, reducing kitchen´s number per family-nucleus, replacing the single-family typology for a collective poly-family, at the same time, increasing their autonomy with direct access to public space. What we know as common area is redefined, it’s no longer the lobby, hall or corridors, now it will be the kitchen, laundry, dining and living room. Nine common-cells contain the new common areas, in each one these 2 or 3 bedroom-cells converge of the 21 proposals. Exclusive, autonomous and reprogrammable according to each family-nucleus, these can range from two to eight people. The 30 cells are embraced by a wooden structure, support access´s ladder and configure a 20x20x15m cube.
