NonA Weekly: A JOURNEY TO SPACE
Dear readers and friends,
If you could take a trip into space, where would you go? What kind of spacecraft would you design? How would you build it?
A spacecraft is a vehicle designed to travel to and orbit in space. The payload, or what is carried into space – a telescope, sensor device, or people – is contained within the launch vehicle which lifts the payload into space. Today, launch vehicles have several stages that drop off during the launch, but in the future, the launch vehicle or spaceship will have only one stage.
1. SPACECRAFT
Spacecraft, a VEHICLE designed to operate, with or without a crew, in a controlled flight pattern above Earth’s lower atmosphere. Actual vehicles are designed with a variety of shapes depending on the mission. The spacecraft typically either is placed into an orbit around Earth or, if given sufficient velocity to escape Earth’s gravity, continues toward another destination in space.
2. DECK PLANS
A compilation of DESIGNS of Spacecrafts – from fiction to reality – showcasing interior layout, components, and all the imaginary world that is space travel.
3. DESIGN OF SUPPORTING SYSTEMS FOR LIFE IN OUTER SPACE
This BOOK is a rich source of information on design research and solutions for the support and development of space missions. The challenge facing designers is how to approach environmentally extreme conditions in such a way that they are transformed from limitations into opportunities.
4. INTERVIEW WITH (A + B), THE SPACER ARCHITECTS
(a + b) is not just a mathematical formula, it is also the name of the studio founded ten years ago by the architects Annalisa Dominoni and Benedetto Quaquaro. Design specialists for SPACE, with capital letters, and for extreme environments. An architecture studio that uses space as a field of investigation.
5. ALUMNI DIGITAL TALKS | IL DESIGN PER LA VITA NELLO SPAZIO
What does it mean to design for space? In this Digital TALK, organized together with the Fondazione Politecnico di Milano, the theme of life in space was explored, looking at the role that design can play in improving the living and working conditions of astronauts and in proposing methods and tools to deal with extreme environmental conditions, transforming them from limitations into opportunities.
6. HOW MISSION DESIGNERS INVENT FUTURISTIC SPACECRAFT
When spaceflight engineers design highly specialized spacecraft for interplanetary missions, they’re doing some rather extraordinary things. The whole process involves developing a concept and formulating a realistic budget so that everything can come together for the final product. From journeying to distant worlds to catching asteroids, this NASA conceptual design TEAM turns the spacecraft of your dreams into reality.
Stay creative and see you all next week!
