The landscape project of Thessaloniki’s eastern Ring Road on the two interchanges location, damaged from the technical work, has given us the opportunity for recreating, restoring and upgrading the site. For inhabitants, travelers and visitors, constituting a vital role for the city’s landscape. An imaginary conflict between natural and built environment results in a territorial loom of the urban fabric over the suburban forest of Seih-Sou. Hourglass, conceptually, dictates the design principles and intentions thus seeking a new landscape balance so as to serve the social, cultural and ecological needs. To this end, the landscape elements and characteristics, which were over the years unexpectedly abandoned, poorly degraded but not essentially altered, are highlighted. In this sense, the proposal contributes to the restoration of unique landscape identity where a new configuration, a novel and functional suburban space, meets the expectations of road and pedestrian users and residents. At the same time, being a landmark that respects its ecological background, creatively and dynamically giving prominence to the image of the whole city of Thessaloniki.
