-EDITORIAL PICK of Powerless City Competition
The drawing is a blurring imagination of Nomadland. The city, known as Nomadland, is a speculative device which examines the complex social and political conflicts extracted by the future mass development of the North Sea. We imagine that the Nomadland as a machine that has been naturally built for supporting modern production, and it grew through time in tune with the industry development around the North Sea.
It is initially just a simple platform for long term offshore operations. However, it has to constantly deconstruct and reoperate itself to adapt to the growing demand for the rapid industry expansion and result as a hybrid system which facilitates synchronised activities including production, service, living and entertainment. The Nomadland is a living machine that integrates living, working, entertaining and depressing. There is no context, no history and no culture, just a blank stage that is waiting for a show. The production activity dominates the void and shaped the whole landscape decisively. Factories become the ground, holding the forest of machines and the human figures become a screw that keeps the machine running.
