-EDITORIAL PICK of Post-Nuclear Power Plant Competition
12 years have passed since the Fukushima disaster, and although the site has undergone the process of decontamination, it is evident that the community population has not recovered since its evacuation due to the aftermath of the tsunami in 2011.
Prevailing Certainty aims to reconnect the Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant area to the general public, with measures that can better protect the community members in similar scenarios when disasters occur; it consists of three components that form a smart grid: a tsunami tower, a museum, and anaerobic digesters that produce renewable energy.
The museum displays the pros and cons of various energy resources to educate the public, while the anaerobic digester serves to provide an alternative energy source, by utilizing the organic wastes produced by the museum visitors, and in return provides electricity that supports the operation of other structures. Meanwhile, the tsunami tower stands to protect the people in case a tsunami occurs in the future.
With the lessons learned from the Fukushima disaster, Prevailing Certainty is designed to invite visitors to the neighborhood of the decommissioned energy infrastructure, while proposing a smart grid with the implementation of a less risky renewable energy production.
