Part virtual, part physical, TOPersonalSHOP speculates the possible future of the high street – shopping malls become spectacles of personal shopping similar to an urban lounge where people partake in social gathering and relaxation. It is a proposal of the future retail landscape for TOPSHOP on London high street where leisure and social space integrates with the online shopping experience through Augmented Reality facilities, replacing the traditional brick and mortar stores and providing people a customised and fragmental buying and entertaining journey.

Users arrive at the TOPersonalSHOP, the Shopping Wonderland on the high street. In the Personal Shopping Centre, customised shopping lists are generated upon users arrival based on their online browsing history. After placing their orders using AR facility, users can enjoy hair and nail salon by robotic arms or have a walk in the public park on the ground floor while waiting for the orders which are being fulfilled in the underground warehouse. At the end of the journey,  through the AR app on their phone, users can envision themselves on the catwalk with the new look. They can’t wait to share this moment on Instagram #TOPersonalSHOP.

Pipe is your new home center. The entire production is getting inside your house. All consumables are available immediately. Buying is so simple thanks to this optimized logistic in each dwelling. When you need something (or you don’t), a simple swipe on your phone triggers a complex chain reaction.

Autonomous drones carry the merchandise goods from the big box — a superarchitecture without content — to the Pipe: an elegant and functional tube. Once delivered by the Pipe, enjoy it and swipe for something else. The illusion is perfect: home has become a small factory.

You get everything home, regardless to the production means, transport networks, ecological footprint, and consequences on the large scale territory. The city is now a neutral surface whithout any specific pole of attraction, mostly composed by housing, office buildings and factories. Consumerism definitely entered in the private space. Pipe is the parcel locker which replaced the fireplace : “Eau et gaz à tous les étages” now including the Pipe.

 

As the new totem for shopping religion, chrome-plated swallowing barrels aim to heaven.

Delivery services offer online tracking system, but the goods are sometimes marked delivered without you ever receiving it. Sounds frustrating? Definitely. Online shopping though takes only a few easy clicks, but missing parcels are real nightmares.

The revamp of the drone delivery system ‘Nobody Home’ which makes it stand out from the other existing drone deliveries is the implementation of the live streaming tracking procedure. It records and broadcasts the delivery journey to each user, giving users the instant location updates of their goods through their phones.

One must fully embrace absolute multidisciplinary collaboration in order to achieve one’s self-fulfilment. The infinity of information, technology and data one is exposed to, disturbs the completion of authentic tasks of the human experience. Collapsing Technology and Space allows implicit interactions with the boundlessly growing network of collaborative interfaces.

How does one take any meaningful decision when constantly persuaded by an ever-growing society of strongly controversial intentions?

Individual Mobility Cells allow accidental explorations of uncharted territories. Then and only then, users will be exposed to serendipity and free from subliminal influences.

Accidental Heterotopias are spaces generated every day by their users through data mining for the construction of ephemere intertwining dreams revealing the hidden realities of product making.

Architecture, Technology and Machine Learning fade into the collaborative medium generated by the Heterotopia Clusters striking for ethic and sustainable consumerism.

Situationist’s spectacle will thus be eliminated by one unique multi-disciplinary system constantly destroying and building the components of our Built Environment. Then and only then, will one truly live the smallest unimpaired life experiences building honest cognitive liberty of mind.

At this point of existence, we are optimized to perform habitual behavior rather than live our lives. Non places are the junk spaces that are left overs that people often ignore due to limited expectations. Space holds essence of time and its context in forms of formal and informal events. These events create memory.

The booming e-markets which is the possible future of buying creates an absence of an actual space that challenges one of the basic idea of a market place, to socialize and connect, depriving six senses that creates gray memories. The idea of market is transforming into a non-place. The augmented / automated cloud-markets and visuals resonates the death of physicality of the products and people.

Current food networking and supply chain has created a loophole for wastage and uneven distribution. Lack of proper monitoring or efficient redistribution system, arrests the community with food insecurity.

Can a consumer grow their own food as per need? Can s/he earn our food as well as values that reconnect us with the ecology, economy and community? Can Buying create and connect memories?

Buying begins with satisfying basic needs. You are buying food if you are hungry. Then you choose what you want, the fruit you like. One becomes extremely popular. Products are created in those shape. Do they have any relation to the basic need? Is the product becoming independent? Imagine the store where they are sold. What if it takes the same shape as initial product. How would you feel in that kind of space?

Shops showcase a wide range of products offering big promises that are not supported by an experiential trial, but the rumour is there actually exists a place like this: You’ve seen a nice pair of shoes in the window of a shop. You go inside and take them into your hands. The seller asks you: Would you like to try them out? You put them on and start walking graciously like you’re on a podium. You feel like it’s the first time you’re analyzing a product in their specific context. The seller: But what if you could engage in different adventures every time you put these shoes on?  You have just entered a place where you can test the items, in a playful way, before you buy them. You will have a memorable event that engages you in an inherently personal way and by the end of the day, you will have achieved your experience of the product and not necessarily the product itself. You can configure a product fit for you, based on the collected data and then order it. Space rearranges in a perpetual movement, a new path for a new experience and in fact for an experiment.

The Death of Local Business and the High Street

This proposal is intended to be a small intervention to occupy an area that previously hosted a thriving local high street business.

The empty plot will now be turned into a green space that also acts as a delivery depot for drone packages (servicing the increasing number of people purchasing online.)

The drone pods collect and hold local drone deliveries until all ‘seeds’ are full, when the deliveries are released like that of a dandelion, delaying the instant gratification we are so used to with developed delivery services. The remaining space provides a green space for the community to exchange their time for goods in a nod to traditional trade by way of exchange.

Using the funeral service as an example of how local, personal and quick response business still thrives in the modern age, underneath the delivery garden is a candle-lit remembrance crypt for people to honour their loved ones and act as a mausoleum to local business. The crypt should also prompt users to think more carefully about the effects of excessive consumerism when confronted with a more human interaction. The encased cadavers act as compost for the new, thriving garden above.

Logistics, stores and storage space – how much more accessible and sustainable would everyday buying be if we find a smart solution to reduce/ eliminate those expenses? In our struggles with demographic and climate crises – a lot. As scientific developments continue to reach further heights in technology and synthetizing of substances that question no longer remains theoretical.

Using a fleet of advanced clean-fueled rockets and drones (which make a 24h delivery policy self-evident) major logistic centers are relocated on the moon, reclaiming extensive amounts of essential area for living or ecological purposes. Stores, storage spaces, large garages – gone, merely by enhancing imagination. Getting the product is no longer necessary for experiencing its look, feel, smell and daily use. It’s enough to ingest a little pill synthesized by a device looking a lot like a vending machine, just on the street.

One touch, a smart chemical balance unique for every product and the natural power of the human brain. No more endless reviews and lines and struggles with availability. Just pass by one of the dispensers, choose whatever interests you. Then go enjoy a lovely time trying it out. In the park. With your friends. Wherever. Whenever.
