Home Sweet Home…or is it? It’s likely that the way we think and live our home has changed along the last few months. The place we couldn’t wait to go back to at the end of a long day, it’s now the place we can’t escape from.
We’re living revolutionary times, will we be able to give home a whole new meaning?
1. NEW HOUSING TYPOLOGIES
As we are forced to stay at home, we experience the limits of housing architecture in a sudden way. With our habits changing it’s clear OUR HOUSES WILL CHANGE, in ways that were unpredictable just a short time ago.
2. A NEW TYPOLOGY?
For designers and architects, it’s a whole new challenge and opportunity. Architects are reflecting on what they’re learning from the lock-down experience, and RE-THINKING WHAT A HOUSE IS and how it will adapt to our new needs.
3. HOME OFFICE
Remote work and telecommuting have become part of our daily life, and our houses became our offices. Luckily we are living in a time where technologies can help review these paradigms and CREATE NEW SCENARIOS for the future of housing and working.
3. HOME SCHOOLING
Houses have become offices, and schools. As many parents started working from home, their children started staying at home, creating a whole new dynamic for everyone involved. Here’s a few tips for WORKING HOME WITH CHILDREN, the most demanding workplace you’ll ever experience.
4. IS IT A FAMILY BUSINESS?
The difficulty of working home with children is just the tip of the iceberg; a whole economy and SOCIAL STRUCTURE has been hit to its core, creating ripples at different levels. It is therefore not only a family’s issue, and COMMUNITIES can have an active role in offering solutions.
5. HOUSING EQUALITY
The pandemic has made even more visible the inequalities of the housing market. What we can see clearly now is that better housing conditions can translate in a stronger barrier to the spreading of a virus. SOCIAL INEQUALITY in housing needs to be addressed, for the benefit of everyone.
6. THE CINEMATIC HOUSE
Houses can be great actors too; they can act as main character and go, almost, unnoticed. Here’s a selection of films where THE INTERIORS TAKE THE LEADING ROLE and define the narrative.

The Regular Registration period is ongoing for both our competitions, HEALING – ALTERNATIVE DESIGNS FOR QUARANTINE CITIES and SOCIAL DISTANCING HOUSING BLOCK, until July the 18th.
