Dear readers and friends,
Cities face enormous challenges: The energy transition, climate adaptation and, the enormous challenge to build houses for growing populations. As more and more people live in cities, we consider how architecture and landscape design can be adapted to their needs.
What will the cities of the future look like?
1. WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO CITIES IF EVERYONE KEEPS WORKING FROM HOME?
Our lives in urban centres have been completely upended over the last 16 months. As we look into the near FUTURE, some of us begin to experience the call back into our workplaces and experience the awakening of a long slumber of cities, it’s without a doubt that life as we knew it will never be the same.
2. WHAT WILL THE CITIES OF THE FUTURE LOOK LIKE?
By the year 2050, it’s expected that two-thirds of the population will be living in urban areas. This means city services will face a significantly higher DEMAND. So, what will the urban landscape actually look like in three decades’ time?
3. THE WORLD IN 2050
What will the cities of the future look like? In this VIDEO, we are going to be taking a look at some of the most sustainable cities which are currently under construction. From smart high-tech cities to forest cities we will be taking a closer look at what urban life is going to be like in 2050.
4. WHAT WILL YOUR CITY LOOK LIKE IN 2050?
Peering into the FUTURE is a favourite exercise for planners and designers. From the Chicago 1893 Columbian Exhibition to New York City’s two Worlds Fairs (1939 and 1965) and beyond, the future was optimistic and filled with cool technology and architecture.
5. WHAT WILL OUR CITIES OF THE FUTURE LOOK LIKE?
We are moving towards an increasingly urban world. The United Nations predicts that nearly 84% of people will live in cities in 2050. This is a TREND that has not been impacted by the current global pandemic. With more people moving to urban areas, the way we go to work, visit friends and family and move around the place we live is going to fundamentally change.
6. FUTURE OF CITIES
As mega-cities rise and technology RESHAPES the urban landscape, how will these changes affect the vast majority of the world’s poor?
