The Playful Parade investigates mobility and movement through play, and how it may integrate, and impose itself onto a typical urban street setting. Presently, pedestrians will often comprehend streets as a mundane medium for ‘origin-to-destination’ travel. Additionally, pedestrians will often understand street mobility as a series of hierarchies; vehicles first, pedestrians last. This is best represented as large paved right-of-ways that are dedicated to vehicular traffic flow, with crowded, narrow sidewalks as residual spaces left for pedestrians.
The Playful Parade superimposes itself onto a typical urban street setting, however, instead of large paved right-of-ways for vehicles, it’s replaced by integrated landforms of greenscape and playscape infrastructure that assimilates with the street, street edge, and built form. Pedestrians are given the freedom to comprehend, and negotiate their mobility choices through The Playful Parade by running, walking, climbing, rolling, cycling, sliding, jumping, and more, all in the name of Playful Mobility.
