The “Open-Source Street” is designed as a future collaborative approach that aims to enhance the capacity for change in the community through the joined actions of the inhabitants in designing, constructing, and operating the projects.
The proposed location of the project is in Ki Lung Street, Sham Shui Po. It hosts a famous fabric market and old residential buildings in the most aging district in Hong Kong. To re-energize this unique place for the sake of society in long-run, our project provides a system that encourages collective creation of urban spaces with a central initiative responsible for collecting and sharing information, assistance, and materials. The residents freely design and build their space together in the open area on the ground level for living, making business, entertainments, etc. They order the construction materials and seek for guidance through the mobile app, and the workers in the storage rooms will send the required materials to them by the freight transporters. The movable platforms on the top allow designers to create public facilities with the residents, and they travel around the district for gaining more public engagement. For the transportation, the tram is free in charge to encourage the general to the project.
