-EDITORIAL PICK of Powerless City Competition
In a powerless world , one has to imagine that the lack of non renewable resources and centralization of energy production would affect dilapidated cities even more than ones with very good infrastructure and technology.
Ukraine with its recent events serves as an interesting case for imagining a powerless city. After facing a severe power outrage after its power plants being destroyed.
The city itself is now filled with destroyed buildings which creates interesting opportunities, wherein the buildings act as a framing system for reversible infrastructure, reversible being the keyword here as assuming Ukraine has to turn power independent along with making up for lost infrastructure.
The proposal envisions parasitic attachments made of renewable bamboo members treated to be rigid to handle climatic degradation used in tensegrity structures which can be put together autonomously and with lack of difficulty .
Bamboo tubes acting as compression members along with steel cables can be transported and assembled on site.Integral structure is replicated to serve immediate infrastructure needs .Solar roof installed on a large umbrella framework provides shade and serve energy needs .Lead acid batteries stored in the buffer space between two modules stores energy utilizing a smart grid.
