New architecture and landscape for a Beach Mall

New architecture to recover the dune landscape of Maspalomas Beach, Gran Canaria, Canary Islands, Spain. This beach is one of the most beautiful natural areas in Gran Canaria. In order to change the current situation, a new architecture is proposed. This architecture transforms the current mall in a new architecture landscape, based on the dunes shape.The proposal minimizes the presence of architecture using it as container of the natural dune ecosystem; winds from the Sahara, marine currents from the Atlantic Ocean, the sun, the dunes and special endemic vegetation. These elements serve as the matrix for a new ¨urban – antiurban landscape¨, where the mall squares, and other public spaces are made from “the sand reconquering its territory”. The vegetation traps the sand that arrives with the ¨Calima¨ (winds saturated with sand coming from the Sahara Desert) as well as the sand that comes from the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean. The project proposes to use ¨Nebka dunes¨ to create a new urban landscape where the sediments invade the coast and the free urban spaces (public or private). How can new Nebkhas be created? It is very simple. The endemic vegetation will be planted  over the roofs and everywhere. In a matter of time, nature and the ecosystem will do their work.
