In Bangkok, Pracha-u-thit road is now facing the problem of inefficient footpaths which leads to the unpleasant experience visually and physically. Along with the hot-and-humid weather, people start to avoid using walkways and move to the road instead, which causes the traffic to be crowded every morning and evening.
Therefore, in recent years, Thailand has been trying to increase the quantitative capability to accommodate cars and motorcycles on the road while paying less attention to the quality of foot transportation alongside. Therefore, this project aims to improve the quality of experience and the environment around footpaths in Pracha-u-thit road to encourage people to walk within 15 minutes.
People in Pracha-u-thit road who work in the middle of Bangkok usually travel back-and-forth to their workplaces via buses at the Km-9 bus station under the expressway. However, there is a struggle in which the main path, under the expressway, to the bus station does not accommodate their walks by having a dim atmosphere and disorganising space.
The concept refresh & relief starts from the narrative of people going from Pracha-u-thit road to Suksawat road to work everyday by bus. In the morning, they go to the bus station with drowsiness and in the evening they come back from work on the same path with tiredness. Therefore, the pathway should be the place which refreshes them in the morning and relieves them after their work. The feature arrangement in the design is governed by the rhythm and density of usage in each space.
