-FINALIST of Post-Nuclear Power Plant Competition
After the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant was shut down due to the tsunami, the large quantity of radioactive material released has caused significant human suffering and rendered large stretches of land uninhabitable. The accumulated wastewater has started to be released into the Pacific Ocean.
Rather than restoring the nuclear power plant, which has a slim chance of being revived, the plan is to develop it into a research center for nuclear fusion and renewable energy for future generations.
The unexplored depths of the Japan Trench will be surveyed to discover future resources and energy sources, and underwater hotels and floating islands will be installed to allow for exploration of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant from the land.
UAM stations will be installed on both sides to secure a transportation network between the deep sea and the land. A new tourism concept is proposed by linking the unexplored depths and the abandoned nuclear power plant to the research center for renewable energy and the park.
DEEP (ocean carbon) NEUTRAL CITY grants us access to a world that humanity barely knows and will help make breakthrough discoveries and allow for a deeper understanding of the ocean.
