-HONOURABLE MENTION of Waste Pavilion Competition
The problems associated with urbanization cannot be overlooked, and the “urban village” is a typical manifestation of these issues. In the city centers of these cities, skyscrapers stand impressively in city centers, while urban villages fade in comparison. Self-destructing curtain wall glass of skyscrapers is swiftly replaced, while the neglected roofs and walls of urban villages remain damaged.
Our project aims to utilize self-destructing curtain wall glass as a recyclable material for the reconstruction of urban villages. The reconstruction process will involve the following steps:
Tracing damaged structures with wire mesh.
Instead of being transported long distances to landfills, the self-destructing curtain wall glass from skyscrapers will be connected to each traced wire mesh through a dramatic transportation pipeline.
3、Glass fragments fill the mesh, creating a new structure and façade of the urban village.
By repurposing the self-destructing curtain wall glass from skyscrapers, we provide a sustainable solution to rebuild and revitalize urban villages. In this way, urban villages can regain a new appearance and actively participate in the process of urbanization in a sustainable manner. They can provide a fresh space for urban residents, transforming them into more than just sorrowful ruins under the shadows of skyscrapers.
