Gabion Sampler is an ever-evolving pavilion that embodies the spirit of reuse: It functions as a repository for a diverse range of materials such as concrete from old buildings, textiles and plastics. These elements are meticulously sorted and stored within modular gabion cubes, awaiting their future purpose in the realms of reuse and recycling. The gabion cubes can be dynamically arranged and repositioned by a robotic arm located at the center of the pavilion which orchestrates the landscape of benches, beds, floors, shelves, and walls that can be used by visitors in an exploratory manner. Drawing inspiration from the concept of sampling in modern music, where fragments of existing songs are blended to create new compositions, this pavilion samples old buildings and objects to construct a resourceful novel space that simultaneously serves as an extensive showcase of all its available repurposed materials that await a renewed use.
Through its ever-changing composition, this pavilion Sampler beckons us to envision a future where architecture becomes a catalyst for regeneration.
