-FINALIST of London Vertical Farm Competition
In 2100, due to global warming and rising sea level, London will face a series of problems such as urban flooding and large-scale inundation of cultivated land.
The Royal Docklands, where Millennium Mills is located, has been given a new function and is the key to the city’s agricultural supply.
The building body is made of PH-neutral cement, and the uneven surface and voids allow Marine life to attach, inhabit and grow, forming an ecosystem. The cell walled central tower grows crops, avoids pests and harsh weather in a closed irrigation system, and together with the suspended embedded farm for aquaculture, provides feed for livestock production in the middle layer. Cell walls collect, digest and discharge pollutants, and transport biogas from farms to multi-level pipelines as clean energy to decompose Marine garbage, purify urban wastewater and desalinate seawater, provide soil nutrients and building energy, and maintain farm facilities.
The transmission path captures docked drones to provide stable and safe food directly to urban residents, avoiding food overstock and waste.
Architecture will be a key part of London’s future, with the ability to continually regenerate and develop seen as a key part of the city’s continued growth and success.
