The GREEN MILLENNIUM is the antithesis of the Millennium Mills of the last century.
In the same way that a plant makes its way through the concrete the GREEN MILLENNIUM grows through the history of the building reinterpreting 3 key concepts.
Function
Food production. The Millennium Mills developed this function from the import of raw materials. The GREEN MILLENNIUM is the food producer.
Economy
The Millenium Mills was a link in an economic chain. The new building proposes a circular economy model, being the producer and the seller of a local products
Architecture
The old structure was a solid, compact and opaque volume and the GREEN MELLENNIUM is the opposite. We designed a vertical farm who emerge from the old concrete and floats above the urban level generating a shelter under its translucent skin. The ground plan it’s an open plan who works as a public market of local vegetables. The rest of old building its scientific and educational program.
The vertical farm it’s a volumetric copy of the original structure inscribed inside this one to make a concept contrast
