-FINALIST of SOCIAL DISTANCING HOUSING BLOCK Competition
Sanctuary stands as the new face of social housing in the COVID-19 pandemic times.
Located in the tropical paradise of Singapore, this community prioritizes open greenspace and flexible work spaces while interweaving a variety of comfortable-sized apartments. Units range in size accommodating individuals, couples, and large families of three generations under one roof. Each unit also has a household shelter, a feature unique to Singaporean apartments as part of the civil defense shelter act.
Circulation space is transformed into social space, encouraging the residents to explore the green terraces with ample space to still socially distance from other neighbours. These spaces are designed to foster social interaction and connection while maintaining a safe physical distance from one another. They also promote positive mental and physical health by allowing the residents to leave their apartments to explore and enjoy a change of scenery.
Open air terraces and social balconies create a large atrium feel, giving the opportunity for neighbours from different floors to connect with each other as their views are unencumbered.
Office spaces located in the main floor allow residents to work from home. These spaces are communal but spatially separated with barriers to meet COVID safety standards.
