of Doctors&Farmers envisions the possibility for a safe and self-sustained apartment block: users live their everyday life following practices belonging to the sanitary system and sustainable farming; thus preventing further spreading of the virus and achieving a degree of independence from food chain distribution.
In shared buildings, we might rethink circulation spaces as sanitisation tunnels : one way loops designed to avoid pinch points and equipped with lockers for outdoor clothing/gear, thermometer guns and mist sprays in order to sanitize every person entering the building and ensure a safe living environment.
Living units have great space flexibility and rely on Vertical Aquaponic Gardens for harvesting both plants and fishes. Since producing their own food, users can often avoid commuting to supermarkets and can keep themselves away from potential contamination scenarios. Additionally, the aquaponics towers function both as therapeutic gardens and partitions. They are mounted on vertical supports and when necessary, can slide back and forth. This results in opening up outdoor areas, changing the layout within an apartment or creating shared spaces between units to allow protected social interaction and boost mental well-being.
