The reconversion of jackup rig oil platforms that settle at water depths of up to 120m is obligatory. They are most often dismantled after 30 years of service. Jack Up Free proposes reconversions of such platforms reaching their end of intended use, thus extending their life. The motive is to help reduce the lack of action taken in the area of ocean plastics and marine hypoxia that has led to ‘ocean dead zones’ due to lack of oxygen. The proposal involves two scenarios, one of the treatment of ocean surface plastics and the other of the restoration of the seabed (within the perimeter of the platform’s former activity). The envisaged proposal extends the platform’s usage by 20 years, after which it is dismantled.
