Since nature has been incorrectly monetized in the modern age, as time passed on, humankind depleted the soil and groundwater levels, diminishing any chance of nature to thrive on its own. The focus of our future has always been on developing the city, and on how to deal with climate change from there. With this new condition of a handicapped nature, the only solution is to use technological innovation to create a new typology of nature: the conditioned nature.
The landscape of the Netherlands has always been manufactured: dykes, canals and polders have resulted in a complex network designed to keep the water out. This project proposes to use this network as a foundation on which the conditioned nature can sprout. Polder by polder, pumping stations and irrigation pipelines rehydrate the soil, with trees and hydroponic mast-tower networks in between them, activating nature in three dimensions, creating a manufactured forestland.
This artificial nature is today the tool for human survival- the construction and strategic allocation of forestlands, where remaining flora and fauna can survive. Today, we not only design and build the places we live but we also design the places where nature can rest and heal.
