-FINALIST of Waterless World Competition
Because of climate change, Seoul in Korea suffers from heavy rains and flooding every year. With the continued flooding of the Han River, previous water supply chain have become useless due to the flooded intake facilities near the river. Water is overflowing around, but there is little fresh water. To generate fresh water and to deal with flooding water, all existing infrastructure must be used to generate and supply water foremost.
High-Rise buildings are used as giant water purifier, as the rainwater collected on the roof is filtered through the building core.
Water supply and drainage chain is replaced with the subway system by taking advantage of the spread and the placement of stations.
Long-Span buildings like stadium become reservoirs and dams that prevent flooding in summer and store water for the drier seasons.
The new extreme freshwater-cycle we propose is visible in our everyday lives unlike its precessors. The increase of importance and value of water makes it the first needed infrastructure within the city. In the ’WATERISM’ world, water social security is required for healthier future city.
