-FINALIST of Hong Kong Drone Port Competition
In Hong Kong’s dense Urban Jungle, the skyscrapers stand as ivory-towers of isolation in stark contrast with the vibrant chaos of the ground. Inspired by the humble Chinese Banyan that provides Hongkongers relief on the ground, the “Airboreal Oases” are beacons of respite imagined interconnecting these towers in a Transit-cum-Public Space system that transcends the unforgiving density of the ground. Serving as hubs of Aerial Shared Mobility, these “Oases” form pockets of public space in the air weaved together by means of Drones; connecting the various regions of Hong Kong and Pearl River Delta Cities.
The central Oasis Hub roots itself in the International Financial Center complex, bridging the various towers. The Droneport wraps around the Outer Deck, with 34 Drone pads that are spaced to prevent “Wake Turbulence”. The structure itself is profiled to deflect the whirring sounds skywards. The Skin of the structure is layered with soil and Algal composites that aid in Carbon Capture while providing the base for the Arboreal Greendeck. The Inner Decks form the “Living Concourse” that houses Retail, Concert Halls, Hospitality and Leisure spaces. The Top Deck forms a public park that doubles up as an RC Drone Racecourse during special events.
