Ruben Bergambagt
Director / Founding Partner
MSc, SBA, ARB, LEED Green Associate
Ruben is a director and co-founding partner at the international architecture practice Superimpose Architecture with entities in Beijing, Rotterdam and Hong Kong. Ruben has a strong academic achievement including receiving Cum Laude in MSc and nominated as best architecture graduate (2009) at the Delft University of Technology (TUD) in The Netherlands. He also pursued his study further at Tokyo Institute of Technology with the Young Scientist Research Program. He is a registered architect both in the Netherlands and in the United Kingdom and received his LEED Green Associate credential in 2020.
Prior to co-founding Superimpose in 2016, Ruben joined practices including waa where he was a partner (2012-2015), Foster + Partners London (2009-2012), Rogers Stirk + Harbour Tokyo (2008) and 24h-Architecture Rotterdam (2005-2008).
Ruben has extensive experience in the realm of sustainable LEED, BREAM and WELL certified projects such as the 2018 Stirling prize winning Bloomberg headquarters in London, the most sustainable office building in the world, the WELL Living Lab for Delos and Vanke Sky-City TOD in Hangzhou, Asia’s first LEED for Community Platinum project. Ruben also gained experience on multiple cultural projects and has been highly involved in the Museum of Contemporary Art in Yinchuan China. As a partner of Superimpose, he has been involved in all projects by Superimpose with a number of award-winning projects such as Micr-O in Hangzhou, CO2 in Beijing, the Re-veil and Y-loft City in Changzhi.
Ruben has lectured and been involved at numerous universities and institutions, such as Oxford Brookes University, the AA Summer School in Beijing, Chinese University of Hong Kong, RMIT and Green Building Council Hong Kong and several Design weeks. Superimpose was the co-curator for the Dutch Pavilion at the Guangzhou Design Week 2021 and hosted the event “Superstrategies”, which focuses on the discourse of solutions and strategies during the design process.
Ruben’s design perspective is inspired from his travels around the world. He has a strong vision towards a sustainable and green built environment and with his opportunistic mind set his goal is to make a positive impact.
