Poster Breda

Author: Giulia Fioravera

Graphic designers connect ideas, information and people. This is a great responsibility in a world where image affects people’s behaviour and opinions.

Using the maker revolution, financial crisis and social media uprising as an inspiration we can create transparant, sustainable and honest concepts for the future. As a designer you can contribute to this process by visually reviewing, researching, reflecting and reconnecting to political, economical, ecologic and social challenges. We ask you to visualize YOUR personal way of dealing with contemporary challenges and share this with a wide audience.

1_DESIGNER AS AGITATORS
Using only a picture and some sentences linked to it, a designer can stimulate discussion about many contemporary topics. We decided to talk about the new generations’ idols, the human body distortion through plastic surgery, the always more widespread alteration of pictures , the copy of styles, the prejudice about the imperfection and the use of pictures for the pornography industry.

2_DESIGNERS AS SCIENTISTS
Researching through design means also to put under discussion centuries of habits and to go back to the origin of the design itself, the shape of the objects. Our experience with the theme “designer as scientist” is to make and find questions. The question we asked is crucial and it’s not that easy to answer to it because human being are full of habits about the usage of the objects. It’s interesting how people from different counties will answer in different ways to it.

3_DESIGNERS AS POETS
We decided to create a discussion about the difference/relationship between writers and poets and designers. Is the designer able to express emotions and meanings through shapes? We substituted the first sentence of the “Anna Karenina” first chapter with shapes. We created a FAMILY (using the geometrical shapes) and chanced the orientation of it to simbolize the unhappiness.
