The global crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic has made evident the importance of public spaces in the social sphere, health and collective well-being in urban life around the world.

 

The process triggered by the pandemic, with a first moment of total social isolation, brought up many essential questions about life in cities, such as the need to equip outskirts neighborhoods with facilities and leisure spaces, and the need of humans to socialize, exercise and enjoy moments in opened spaces.

 

Some behaviors and trends around the world became evident:

 

– People often want/need to get their hands washed.

– Adoption of bicycles

– Lack of displays to discard used masks

– Increase of public spaces use

– Increase of pedestrian flows outside the city center.

 

The solution adopted was the creation of two size modules that can be fit anywhere, with uses that solve the issues mentioned above, such as: sink, masks disposal – in order to prevent contamination -, gel dispensers, bike parking, bench, table and garden. The design was made in order to fit and adapt any module or composition in an existing street, park, square or sidewalk. 

 

The public space is, therefore, transformed in a simple, economical and sustainable way, making its access safe, comfortable and democratic.
