During a pandemic like COVID-19, we need everybody’s effort to fight against the disease. However, there is a level of inegligence among people and part of that is due to the facts that 1)the virus is inarguably invisible and 2) when the virus is so contiguous, it’s almost impossible to understand how close you are to the risk.
Unlike the abstract numbers you hear on the news, ClOUDs is an urban infrastructure consisting of a series of floating installations that looks almost identical from common clouds in most cases. The system warns people about the ongoing pandemic by creating an ephemeral, but highly visible and tangible urban landscape: rain.
CLOUDs is always in one of these four modes: 1)monitors outbreaks and collects humidity from air 2)declines and clusters toward emerging hotspots 3)warns and sanitizes by creating local precipitations 4)elevates and again, collects humidity
By working between those 4 stages, CLOUDs synchronously reveals and mediates new outbreaks in the urban environment by creating local precipitations thus dramatically changing the local landscape of a district. With a certain concentration of disinfectant in the rain, the rain sanitizes the air thus slows the spread of the virus and simultaneously, it reminds people of the local spread of the virus and encourages people to stay indoors to avoid contact during a local outbreak. Through this process, CLOUDS will turn the fear of pandemic to a more acceptable concept in our life.
