-FINALIST of FUTURE PUBLIC SPACE Competition
In a man-made world of constant change it is now more than ever important to reimagine, reinterpret and reinhabit the public space as we know it. Therefore the proposal suggests to meet that requirement by means of a temporary structure made out of usual scaffoldings to punctually revitalise the existing public space regardless of context and environment. Inside the rather ordinary basic structure we suggest to elevate the already available public space – e.g. a city center, a plaza, or even a river bank – by not only adding a vertical dimension but to even go beyond and implement a digital element to further channel the potential of the public space as a permanent foundation of today’s society. By connecting physicality with digital media the design is able to offer the possibility of social gathering, learning and exchanging of cultural as well as political information between people of different generations and cultural backgrounds. Our aim is to bring all people together in this new idea of a public space that goes beyond the limits of space by providing a timeless construct that follows the dynamics of contemporary society.
