-FINALIST of FUTURE PUBLIC SPACE Competition
Tomorrow’s public space will bring people together, give way to debate, and return to the origin of the city: making society. In a context where territories are declining and are seeing their services, shops and shared places closing down one after the other, it is urgent to rethink the role of common spaces in a holistic manner. The aim here is to interrogate «third places» in a global way. These «third places» that make society: the great good places (cf. Ray Oldenburg, 1989).
Between citizen initiatives, transitional processes and «bottom-up», experiments abound with imagination and are taking an increasingly permanent place in the making of the city. Shops and services abandoned in the outskirts and rural areas sometimes resurface in the form of mobile, nomadic systems. The project «the good nomad place» takes its inspiration from this. This agora truck seeks to support these space initiatives by rethinking a neglected space in declining cities: the public square. This mobile communal-unit will be transported from city to village for the time of a meeting or an event. Residents would find a modular space in the heart of their villages, to watch a film, debate a new project, organize a festival. Together.
