Rotate 90° is located near the metro station in the Levent district of Istanbul. Components such as transportation, streets and public spaces, which exist in the current urban life that develop horizontally, is constructed by turning the axis of the city to the vertical in the proposal design. In the project, it serves the main spine carrier and transportation by connecting to the existing metro line. The lines that form the main axes of the vertical city are differentiated with their red-green-blue colors. The red line refers to live, the blue one refers to learn, and the green one refers to togetherness. The aim is to link these different functions with spaces of coexistence, which are common cultural and social interaction. The lines turn into stops at the points where they intersect with each other, and they are in vertical fluid, continuous motion and jointed at every stops they touch. While these intersections allow them to get support from each other as structures, they also strengthen the relationship between transportation layers as transfer stops. The metro network, which forms the main spin of the vertical city, is the basic transportation system for the building and connects the programs at various heights. Live, learn and sticky units adhering to these structures are connected to the streets on the horizontal. ‘Street’ has been designed to surround the structure as corridors connecting the live, learn and association spaces horizontally. Streets in the corridor structure create opportunities for interaction and reveal new forms of relationship between programs.
Project Type:
Rotate 90° is a live and learn space that has multiple uses. Houses, education areas, exhibition areas, offices, common areas, food and beverage areas, etc. Building scenario enables horizontal development with minor spaces (sticky units; classrooms, rooms, laboratories, residences…) attached to the major spaces such as art center, library, and science center. They can multiply in case of need like mushrooms. Thus, the building can continue to grow both vertically and horizontally. During the design process, new methods were sought for both structural and technical solutions (water, ventilation, etc.) between various residential and building units. Structural solutions of Rotate 90 ° (water, ventilation, electricity ..) create the external structure.

Radical and brave. This is not the traditional skyscraper. In this case, when we go “upstairs” we’ll not find boring offices or free-plan areas, all looking the same. Here the city is truly extended towards the sky. It shows us that alternative city models are possible.
