WANDER WONDER is a speculative post-anthropocentric playable and explorable open-world environment that plays host to a fantastical environment melding architecture, landscape, technology, nature and experiences. It contains spatial and sensorial habitats as didactic and provocative future-centric imagined realities. Designed through game engines, it challenges binary conditions; natural versus artificial, fiction and non-fiction, virtual versus reality – saturating these conditions into a nebulous whole questioning the future impact of emerging technologies and climate change to our evolving ‘naturaficial’ future landscapes and ecologies.

‘Wanderers’ are a select few of volunteers who venture beyond the world’s handful of remaining megalopolis’ born from the ‘Great Reclaimation’. A global retreat at a planetary scale to strategic supercities to allow the world to rejuvenate, to restart, to rewild – to breathe. No countries exist. We are united territories globally dispersed within the world’s grid.

Humanity was stubborn. We left it too late. The world was warming, hurting, dying. In a desperate panic, humanity developed technologies to reverse climate change – some questionable, some untested, some helped, most failed. Cloud seeders, bio mushrooms, infrastructural extraction fans, AI ecosystems, mineral carbon captures and many more. The natural and artificial merged into new wondrous yet uneasy landscapes and ecologies.

We are quasi-professional archaeologists, historians, technologists, creatives, scientists, eco-warriors and daredevils – we wander the globe alone. We wander to know what we have done; what we should have done; what we should do. We wander to understand these new naturaficial landscapes. We wander to know. We wander to act.

Jury Comments

– Fosbury Architecture

Convincing both for remarkably characterized and personal graphics, as well as for project idea and description of the same. We reward the innovation and ability for reading current concerns in a non-rhetorical way.
