Hanoi Old Quarter is the most important and famous district in Hanoi, considered the main business center and tourist attraction of the city Due to the historical nature, this area currently has a very high population density, people do not want to move elsewhere because they can make money from the tourism industry here. In addition, people’s quality of life deteriorates due to old infrastructure, many households have to use the same toilet, and the entrances to houses are narrow due to disorganized expansion of the buildings etc. One of the most popular highlighs of Hanoi’s Old Quarter is the streets packed with scooters, bicycles and cars circling around pedestrians. Pedestrians are forced to take to the streets because of the lack of sidewalks, the dispute between vehicles and pedestrians has created a chaotic traffic picture. Visitors have no choice but to face the traffic in local style. Change is needed.
The project hopes to provide a critical perspective on the adaptability of modern architecture in the ancient city, the improvised diversity in the ways (concentration and transformation) and the behaviour of the buildings reform the urban fabric. Therefore, the goal of the project is to focus on 3 main actions: Collecting (research), theorizing (criticism) and suggesting (promoting).
Project Type: Preserve historical urban.
