-EDITORIAL PICK of Hong Kong Drone Port Competition
This proposal considers the advancement of drone technology to embody characteristics of nature. Drones that scrub emissions, aid in pollination, and secure aviary paths, accelerate the adoption of drones beyond the role of human transit – by incrementally extending ecological pathways from the urban core to the mountain peaks.
In the projected future, diversity in labor results in more places to work outside of the urban core, further easing vehicular congestion and creating opportunities to rescript the ground plane; less roads and more shaded sidewalks. Yet, drones create a new emphasis on what is considered the urban street – the skyline. The skyline – no longer of iconic peaks and towers, but modified peaks of increasing density. This is in part to minimize fuel consumption and maximize the more ecofriendly urban gliding. This new pacing in transit brings more program diversity to upper towers as urban peaks.
Extending from the mountain peak, new parks and eco passages come to the waters edge for the development of new social centers within wetland parks that improve Victoria Harbour’s water quality.
