-EDITORIAL PICK of Hong Kong Drone Port Competition
Many companies are successfully testing drone deliveries, both for consumer goods and emergencies, such as delivering medicines to hard-to-reach areas. A distinctive feature of these tests is that they are carried out in a spacious area, like a backyard or park for safety reasons. Unlike other systems, the Lighthouse Project can operate in densely populated cities like Hong Kong.
The Lighthouse Project consists of two parts:
- The Tower with a port for delivery drones. It has several functional areas – a flight control center, a storage area for drones, a repair shop, and a warehouse with a cargo handling terminal that has an access to the bay.
- A Drop-off system throughout the city. This system takes into account the complex architecture of Hong Kong and consists of several types of drop-off stations.
Type 1. Drop-off stations for personal use are located on the facades of residential buildings. The station proposed in my project will replace some of the existing AC units randomly placed on the facades and will combine the functions of a drop-off station, mailbox, and AC.
Type 2. Public use delivery stations are located on the roofs of buildings where the residents can pick up their delivery.
