-EDITORIAL PICK of Re-Draw.04: Centre Pompidou Competition

The Centre Pompidou is a toy that everyone can play with in Paris. It is like a blood vessel that supplies art and vitality to citizens. Paris was reborn as a modern city through Haussmann’s renovation from 1853 to 1870, but the division between classes was unstoppable. The imbalance in the renovation divided the working class and the rich, and the rising house prices forced the working class to leave the center of the city. Also, various devices in cities designed to control citizens have prevented inter-class exchanges, making the problem even bigger. Richard Rogers and Renzo Piano, who designed The Centre Pompidou, believed that art could create common memories for all Paris citizens. Eventually, The Centre Pompidou transformed art into something that everyone can enjoy, not something that praises it.
