-FINALIST of Re-Draw.04: Centre Pompidou Competition

The Pompidou Center is a fusion of art, people and the city. The building is a gathering space, both inside and outside, connecting different individuals. The height of the building blends with the scale of the surrounding blocks, while the emphasis of external structure and engineering systems speaks to the city – a network of grids, a system of living. Fuse demonstrates this connectivity by overlapping varying media types and views to create one new perspective. The many parts become one shared image; however, its diversity is maintained as each viewer understands the composition in their own way.

A fuse is also an important means of protection in a circuit. The identity of the Pompidou Center, as the heart of the culture, is just as important as a collective identity. The Pompidou Center protects the rights and opportunities of the people to experience art. The drawing maintains the identity of the Pompidou Center as an important architectural and cultural artifact through shared understandings of iconic elements of the building – the red escalators and the colorful piping. These icons, overlayed with multiple images, fuse together perspectives to create both singularities and multiplicities. The importance of individuality in togetherness is maintained.
