Architecture is based on the interaction between the mind, the senses and the place.
Thinking about how to welcome tourists and prepare them for the emotion of the senses that Mantua unleashes is not a matter of course. The project, conceived for the days when the “Literature Festival ” enlivens every place, encloses in the silence of a “camera obscura” the focus of what can be perceived when entering the places of the built environment.
A structure lying on the shore of Mantua’s Superior Lake that accompanies tourists to focus on the context, to discover the historic fortified citadel of the Ducal Palace and the adjoining San Giorgio Castle.
The proposed pavilion is an idea for the city, with the aim of structuring a new conception of living the spaces. Besides, it develops a metaphorical transposition of Andrea Mantegna’s Camera Picta, one of the most relevant Italian artists during the Renaissance.
The pavilion defines a peculiar space, separated from the congested traffic that nowadays has spread in the city. The is the isolation of the visitor by creating a direct visual contact with the city and the surrounding nature.
