In the face of environmental degradation, the Shandong province is on its path of revitalisation. As nature continues to heal the scars of the land, the excavation pits left behind serve as a powerful reminder of our past and the identity of the Zichuan subdistrict. The proposal seeks to revitalize the existing landform by introducing a promenade along the top of the excavation pits, reconnecting the fragmented landscape with a vital route which grants access to activities proposed within the pits. The earth within the pits are refolded into gentle slopes, accommodating mixed-used architectural spaces that generate new economy for local artisans and rural entrepreneurs. Strips of recreational parks and agro-parks hug the outer rim of the pits, blending seamlessly into the existing residential area below.
Along the top of the mountain ridge, an ecological strip is introduced, interlaced with platforms for touristic activities and viewpoints on the peaks. A protected forest area is grown between the ecological strip above with the promenade below, creating a thriving ecosystem experienced through a network of forest trails. On the other side of the mountain, agricultural terraces line the sloping terrain, providing opportunities for food production, habitation and agro-tourism.
