The Shandong Path acts like a reinterpretation of an ancient wonder of architecture, the Great Wall of China. This fortress was constructed along the mountains to defend the Chinese empire from outsiders. In the case of Shandong, a particular site and topography offer an opportunity to develop a park with several pedestrian/cycling routes that could reconnect mining areas with the surrounding places.
The gateways and watch towers that can be found throughout the vast wall, are also rethought in Shandong. In this context a versatile wood module is designed to create a variety of architectural typologies placed along the routes. Pavilions, playgrounds, bridges, piers, tea houses, stables, lookout points are some of these possibilities, but they are not only limited to these.
In brief the Shandong Path not only offers a route of diverse experiences, it also converts a deteriorated environment zone into an excellent opportunity to local communities to reconnect with their surroundings and provides a unique park to the world.
