– FINALIST of REVIVING MINES: SHANDONG PARK Competition
Reviving of a place, which is to bring back the vitality, can be defined from two perspectives: first, it means to re-attract people and fund into the spot; second, it is to restore the local ecosystem. Anthropogenic disturbance imposed to the site in the past has caused the degradation of the spatial quality, ecologically and economically. Although the injured but inherently resilient ecosystem will recover without extra artificial intervention, our design will accelerate the process, thus being meaningful and necessary.
We found that our site is kind of a materialization of the map of “Open World Game” maps as the site contains mine sites, villages, forests, water and other elements. Given that, we envisioned reviving the site through actualizing the game setting. Two types of venue, mission station and supply depot, were evenly distributed on alongside the route. Besides, people can climb on the tower to choose the mission path. Everyone choosing a different path will have an individual game experience. After people’s coming, everyone will gain or lose credits according to their deeds and the credits can be exchanged for factual things or service. In this Credit system, the reviving procedure is resolved into plenty of single game tasks. People gain credits for accomplishing these tasks. Since the content can be dynamic, the reviving process will always be in the present progressive tense.
