– FINALIST of REVIVING MINES: SHANDONG PARK Competition
As we enter the Anthropocene, a young and naive species has become the earth’s first inhabitant to impart a biogeochemical impact so significant that it calls for its own geological epoch. Tapping into the ancient medicinal practice of acupuncture, Anthro-puncture employs targeted healing efforts that collectively reenergize the entire Shandong Hills region. Throughout a network of “puncture points” located in and around the Zichuan Mines, visitors pay homage to geological histories, experience the regenerative transformation of each site, and conceptualize past and future geologic narratives through an augmented reality experience.
The Needle: Like an acupuncture needle tapping into the body’s energetic meridians, Anthro-puncture needles use augmented reality to contextualize specific human impacts within the geologic timescale, as illuminated through the Tale of the Rock.
Anthro-puncture Point Treatments: At each site intervention, visitors are invited to interact with their geological context through programs that utilize, observe, or engage the landscape. Integral to each treatment is a regeneration process that builds biological and social substrates from which new economies may emerge.
Meridian System Response: The network of puncture points brings a new ambition to the region. Site specific therapies collectively stimulate the local economy, and constructively re-direct the trajectory of the Anthropocene.
