Plot Twist is a versatile and modular bridge that provides a direct route across the river in every canal traffic situation. The bridge is composed of two three-armed modules which adapt to three possible rotation scenarios. The 0° and 120° scenarios are the most recurring conditions.
0°
Fast-track-lane configuration: This scenario provides a quick and flat pedestrian and biking connection across the river while the two staircase arms cantilever over the open canal and provide a lookout point. The staircase landings become spacious platforms inviting the users to stop, enjoy the view of Amsterdam and take a picture.
60°
The two modules sit in an open configuration, thus allowing special cargo over 24m in height to pass through and navigate the canal.
120°
After a rotation of 120° the bridge modules reach the other most recurring configuration: the two staircase arms connect and merge into a giant arch. This configuration allows ships to pass under the bridge while reactivating the pedestrian flow.
