Concept
What can a bridge does more than bringing people across the river? The Helijx can serve the city not just as a linkage across the IJ river, moreover, it can offer Amsterdam a piece of mobility infrastructure, a public space, a water playground, a green elevated linear park.
Given the constraints from the site and river crossing physics, spiral structure can not only provide cyclist with multiple panorama views along the journey, but also function as a gesture of water embracing. The elevated paths lead people toward the water, while forming a protection from the busy shipping passing along the IJ river.
Functional
To ensure different users can safely share their crossing experiences and enjoy entire journey, subtle changing of the path width, inclined railing, smart benches(with lighting and wireless charging devices integrated), greenery with local native species, all the elements within this mini-promenade section come into play seamlessly.
Presentation
Landing at the strategic point of IJ river, the Helijx stands as a multi-functional playground, celebrates a new mix-used living area between Isplein, Java Island and recreational harbor for local public. In metropolitan scale, Helijx represents as a crown jewel and complete the series of architectural destinations in Amsterdam.
